Awesome little side street coffee and cafe spot, full line coffee bar that rivals and can beat Starbucks, espresso, lattes and all the flavoring you might want with seasonal favorites, all the food is pretty good too and great outdoor seating.

A little shack reminding me of Key West. Get there early for breakfast like 9ish because it becomes packed. Causal and you can bring your dog. I had the palm tree smoothy and it was a great refreshing start of the morning. We ordered the chicken and waffles, the tree hugger. It's a boneless chicken breast which looked like bone in fried chicken covered with a sunny side up egg.The waffles were moist and dense covered with vanilla butter! Yummmm. The tree hugger is yogurt with granola, strawberries and pineapple dish. All the dishes we're great and decently portioned. We did carryout n ordered "the edge" sandwich which had ham, prosciutto, havarti, eggs and tomato on a croissant--kids ate it up! Highly recommend this place for all including fido.

Awesome place for breakfast or lunch. Have a great variety of coffees including an almond joy and girl scout cookie frappe. Laid back atmosphere. Generous portions. Enjoyed the palmetto sizzle ($12), which was eggs and cheese wrapped in sausage pancakes. Great place in downtown Folly

We wanted to try another breakfast place. We ordered chicken and waffles, folly bowl and omelet. The chicken and waffles were incredible. The corned beef was in strips and a bit chewy. The potatoes were really good. Coffee was strong. Bakery items were amazing. Yummy taste. The chicken could be a little bit juicier ( not sure if that is a word) Very nice staff

What a gem in Folly Beach! This place has amazing brunch options and delish coffee treats! If you have the opportunity to try the croissants-do it! I especially love the non-dairy options available for the coffees. I am definitely addicted to the omelette selection here. There's an omelette option available for whatever your tastes are. Service is always prompt and friendly. The place is always clean and has a lovely, spacious outdoor patio over looking Center St. Go and enjoy!

Back again this year and still impressed with the food and drinks. The wife had the waffle special today. It was a large waffle with strawberries and bananas. You may think that this sounds bland and normal but the taste of their batter is something that you can't stop eating. I was not in the mood for anything extravagant today so I ordered an everything bagel with egg and bacon with fruit as a side. This simple sandwich and fruit combo was an excellent breakfast that would cure the hungriest of appetites. The wife said that their Chai Tea latte was one of the best that she has had and my Bloody Mary really hit the spot. I am glad that I don't live in Folly because I would gain a lot of weight from eating here. Remember that if you come here during peak times, especially on a weekend or holiday, you will have a wait. Just chill out and grab a hot drink, iced coffee, or Bloody Mary from the bar inside and enjoy the morning outside on the benches. We saw people walk away this morning because there was a 20-25 minute wait. We sat that there thinking, "They don't know what they are going to miss."

Excellent pastries and coffee, have had b'fast on several occasions. Have only eaten one time here for lunch and the salad I had was really really good. If you are not a fan of breakfast and light lunch fare this is not the place for you. If you are and you don't have a pet with you, I would recommend this over Lost Dog if staying on Folly. Have never had to wait.

The smug superiority complex of the manager who told me, when asked for the wifi password, that his fine establishment "was not a Starbucks" guarantees I won't be back to this hack of a restaurant. Locals should never be treated like this.

Came here for breakfast while on vacation. Atmosphere: casual Food: My hubby really enjoyed the country Benedict! He said he would definitely order it again. I had the Palmetto Sizzler & while it was good I wasn't blown away. It's basically two very large pancakes with eggs, sausage & cheese between. I thought it was overpriced for what it was... I would return but next time I would get something else.

Best place for breakfast on Folly. Bohicket sandwich is awesome! Also the Girl Scout latte... Definitely worth a try if they have it!

Breakfast was wonderful! Our two families tried a little bit of everything. Love love food!

  • Mike M.

The food was delicious. I had the pipeline wrap with fresh fruit. Very tasty and a healthy way to start the day. I went on a Saturday morning which may be why there was a wait to be seated and then about a 10 minute wait to be seen by the waitress. Then we had to request the waitress in order to meet a request after our food had arrived instead of being asked if we needed anything else. Besides that I truly enjoyed the meal. Definitely will be going back.

YOU HAVE TO GET THE PANCAKES. Everything here is so good, I visit at least once every time I'm in the Folly area

Food was ok... Coffee was a little better than ok. Our waitress sucked. We only saw her when she brought our drinks and check. My advice is to go to lost dog, better food and service!

Excellent brunch. Huevos Rancheros were great, and so were the cheese grits. They make a good bloody mary, too. It was hot out on the deck, and my only suggestion to the restaurant would be to put more fans out there on particularly hot days. But other than that, I had a great experience. Great food, a very attentive staff, and reasonably priced.

  • Salley Z.

I had read good things about this place and most were true. Mom and I stopped in for breakfast and we're seated on the covered deck. I was able to bring my Daschund with me so that was wonderful. I was trying to decide between two dishes and the waitress recommended the Huevos Rancheros. Mom got the Country Breakfast. Mine was incredible. Fresh avocados, corn salsa, eggs, cheese and chipotle creama on fried tortillas. I could stop eating it! The waitresses were very attentive and friendly. The only down side was Mom's meal. The grits were bland, the biscuit was pasty and overall nor very flavorful. All in all...I can't wait to go back!

This place is a great choice for breakfast, and I'm sure their lunch is great too. The menu is awesome, with tons of different choices, and they have tons of different coffees, etc. Whoever thought of using a croissant to make French toast is a genius! The service was great too. I lost count of how many times our waitress asked if she could refill our coffee.

I can't get enough of this place! Clearly a favorite of folly restaurants for most of James island and folly beach patrons . I love their coffee bar. It's great to have while you wait on a table . My daughter loves their waffles and they go out of their way for children! Everything on the menu is fabulous !

I though it was appropriate to leave a review whilst still buzzed from the from the Folly Beach Breeze Carafe I shared with my husband.Excellent service, fantastic food and fabulous setting. Straight ballin' son.

Coffee is strong and tasty. Pancakes awesome. I had the same issue with another reviewer, my poached egg on my Crab Benedict was hard. I was also a wee bit irritated I ate one whole portion(slowly) before our server checked on us and I asked for a new egg. Sadly it was brought plain with no hollandaise...disappointing. My sister was here several weeks ago and they loved everything so I don't give them a bad review...I just say cook poached egg properly and/or don't let it sit under heat lamp. The flavors were good and the atmosphere is great and it was super close to our place on w. Erie and we got coffee to go most mornings.

Pretty good breakfast/lunch spot on Folly. Overall it was good but nothing blew me away. Still a solid contender for top 3 breakfast spots on the Island

This place was amazing! I love a good breakfast place and this didn't disappoint. Fresh bagels and fruit and strong coffee. I ordered the Gershwin bagel sandwich, would def order it again. Cut atmosphere and casual for the beach. Boyfriend loved the strong coffee and I enjoyed the cute signs all over the restaurant. Everyone was friendly and service was great. Can't wait to come back!

  • Tim E.

Excellent!!! Super fresh. So good. Great service with a smile. Good coffees ( including great decaf). Yummy smoothies. Great breakfast sandwiches. Had huevos rancheros one day. The tortillas were fried, which I didn't lie so much, but the fresh avocados and other ingredients still made it wonderful.

  • Erin R.

I hate to be the person bringing down such a strong rating but I wasn't a huge fan of my meal. The venue is adorable, beachy and relaxed feeling and they had an impressive 80s play list. The Coffin Island smoothie was delicious and very filling. I also ordered the zippy bean which was a little intense given the whipped cream on top of mocha and espresso bean infused frappe. I ordered the grilled cheese, being a cheese lover and it was just disappointing. I think it was supposed to be on sourdough but if it as, that dough wasn't sour. I was also expecting a lot from the mix of cheeses but it ended up being really bland. All my friends really liked their meal - so I may be a bit of a fluke but there it is.

  • Dariel S.

Coffee was good but we went today to get some coffee again after 4pm and we were parking in the lot and the owner or manager just simply said this is private property and when we said we were planning on having some coffee he just said we close at 4 (although Google lists them closing at 9pm) he was just dry and rude. I expected better customer skills.

Great selection of food & great tasting. Great atmosphere. Everyone knows of Lost Dog Cafe but this place is 1 block over and just as amazing

This was our first visit to Black Magic Cafe and we would definitely come back again. Service is fast and friendly, lots of choices on the menu. The food was very flavorful and fresh! The huevos rancheros were much lighter and healthier than expected.

  • Molly S.

Nicely done, Black Magic! Really nice, fresh, perfectly portioned, perfectly seasoned and dressed flavorful salads and wrap. South western salad is one of the best I've had that i can recall. The wraps are generous. Not stuffed with mystery goop but burst with flavorful thoughtful ingredients. Service is friendly, unpretentious and thoughtful. The covered patio is perfect place to munch on the goodies! A very different and pleasant experience after the 'dog cafe' half a block away.

  • Tara H.

Ordered the crafe of Mimosas, and they came out like they should, mostly champagne not too much orange juice. The chicken biscuit was simply amazing. Sausage gravy was incredible. A little spice and on the biscuit went prefectly with the juicy fried chicken breast. So much food! I would order it again any day. I ended the brunch with a wonderful loose leaf tea. Smelt as good as it tasted. The service was great! highly recommend!

  • Kristina C.

We ate here the last morning of our vacation in Folly Beach. Wish we had stopped in sooner! The wait staff was very friendly. Our waitress was training a new gal, and they both were very attentive. I enjoyed the iced coffee more than the regular hot drip. Not sure why (could've been it was so darn warm), but the flavor seemed better. Oh, the chicken biscuit! Sooooooo good! Everyone else at my table (even a tired and trouble making 5 year old) enjoyed their food. It's a good location, right on the main drag. Just be careful where you park!

  • Liza W.

I have no complaints! 5 stars- not based on innovation but on a fantasticly solid breakfast (which is truly rare in purist form). Pineapple mimosa, REAL coffee that tastes like coffee, tasty and ripe seasonal fruit (including nectarines!), a delicious and hearty omelette with real cheese, bacon, sausage, and ham (and no fillers- milk or flour- in the eggs!). Pleasant beach ambiance on the patio and quick, pleasant service (thanks Meghan!). A full belly and great start to the morning.

  • Hayley I.

This place was cute and homey when we fist walked in. The charm went away after we waited over 20 minutes to get our drinks and 45 minutes to get our food. I suspect the kitchen was behind cause the restaurant was half full but barely, also there were only two of us. The good was good but nothing to write home about. Very "meh" experience

So glad we stumbled across this little gem next to our vacation rental. Excellent dirty chais and quite the yummy breakfast.

  • Dan O.

I'd like to come back and try the place again because of all the other positive reviews - but my experience was just ok. The sandwiches are all right around $10, which is a bit steep in my book. The sandwiches themselves were also a bit on the small side, though they somewhat made up for it by giving a healthy amount of ingredients. I narrowed it down between the two I thought were the best and asked for a the recommendation between the two. I was told the angel oak sandwich was the best. I thought it was just ok and lacked anything that would make me take notice. I wouldn't feel all that confident recommending to others at this point.

Very charming spot, amazing options, and fair prices. Huevos rancheros bowled me over at breakfast. So glad we discovered them. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back.

  • C L.

Great coffee selections and even better menu items. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked great, making it very hard to decide on what to order. We settled on the chicken and waffles, and the Angel Oak sandwich. No complaints about either, and highly recommend the tobacco honey for the chicken/waffles. Though we came for breakfast we already are thinking of a return trip for lunch.

I've been coming to Folly for 10 years and I just usually go to Lost Dog, but I wanted something different and read reviews on here and this will defiantly be my go to place. I agree with another yelper, don't know why this place gets overlooked! I think it is a better option, it's still small enough to give you individual attention and special requests gleefully instead of the "really can you just order normal look". Coffee is outstanding. I am a lover of coffee but can no longer drink caffeinated due to medication I take. And I've been disappointed in most decaf that just tastes really watered down. When I asked about the decaf, they said "we will add some extra shots for you see how you like it!" It did not disappoint! That alone would have me give this place the highest rating. Lots of great menu options, you will not regret going here.

Great seaside cafe perfect for breakfast, brunch and lunch. The outdoor patio has sunny seating where you can feel the sea breeze. Just yards from the ocean, this cafe is the go to spot for a quick and delicious meal.

Love this place! Great menu for breakfast or lunch- lots of healthy vegetarian choices. Typically there's a wait but that's expected when there's good food, good atmosphere, and great customer service.

What a lovely hidden treasure in Folly Beach! Absolutely everything a person could want from a coffee shop and more. In the insane 110 degree Fourth of July madness, we stumbled into Black Magic Cafe looking for a place to cool off while the traffic died down. Fast forward two hours and I left the Cafe feeling refreshed and revived. Delicious, I'm talking not-needing-sugar-and-cream-delicious, coffee. At least five steps above anything Starbucks has to offer. The service is friendly and you're more than welcome to sit out on their outdoor shaded patio for as long as you like. And just fyi, probably the nicest public bathroom in all of Folly beach.

Just returned from a trip to Folly Beach/Charleston, South Carolina and was compelled to write my first Yelp review about the fantastic Black Magic Cafe on Folly Beach - where the staff is top of the line. On day one of our arrival, we felt at home at this place. The friendly service was unbeatable and made each successive meal there a pleasure. From Courtney who offered a complimentary menu item on our first visit when the crab cakes were taking longer than expected, to Christa (sp?) who charmed the rest of the family after they arrived a couple days later. It was all smiles and cordialness. We tried the other popular nearby cafe, Lost Dog, but went right back the next day for some more Magic. I thoroughly enjoyed the juevos rancheros on day one, piled on two open face fried tortillas, perfect after a redeye flight from California. Two days later, I went southern with a fried chicken and waffle breakfast that kept me sated throughout the day. The final brunch was a lighter "Erin's Breakfast' of two eggs over cooked vegetables and a side. Simple but tasty. The item though that still sits with me is the chocolate croissant. This is a staple of mine and I am a bit of a snob about this particular treat. Since I have moved from NYC, it has been difficult to find a worthy one. Black Magic Cafe more than delivered. It was airy, flakey, and with ample amount of thick chocolate from end to end. Topped with some powdered sugar to add to the decadence. No skimping and a delight in every bite. Thank you Black Magic Cafe and all the staff that took care of us. If ever we return to Folly Beach, I know where my first stop is.

We come to Folly Beach every year. We missed last year so we were eager to get back and have a super yummy breakfast here. They have a delicious breakfast menu. I had a simple eggs over easy but my bread and sausage side were so good. My chai tea had a ton of flavor. My husband went for the sizzler which were two pancakes with sausage cheddar and scrambled eggs inside. He loved it so I had to taste it. It was very good. It's huge so I suggest sharing or save it for when you wake up starving. I think this is the best breakfast place in Folly.

Get the crab cakes. The fish is fresh and the tea is smoky and amazing!! The staff is so sweet.

Had breakfast here, it's very gourmet and very good. Omelets were very fancy. Husband got biscuits and gravy and they came our with parsley. Just super pretty dishes. Coffee is good and strong. Waitresses all helpful and attentive. The atmosphere is a mix between bohemian and beach bum. Very cozy.

A group of us came here and i was so excited because of the reviews...i'm a "yelper" and try and find places based on the reviews. Unfortunately, i was really disappointed. i got the breakfast special which was a great price, but my scrambled eggs came cold, and my bacon was a rubbery mess. The sourdough toast was good. that's about all i can say about it.

Great experience! All of the staff seemed exceptionally helpful and friendly. Kudos to our server, Krista, she rocked! Food was very good and coffee superb. Love that they allow dogs on their back patio. These guys know how to deliver top notch service.

This place was packed! We waited 20 minutes for brunch on a Sunday morning in January, and when I asked the lady making coffee if it was normal, she said they were usually slower and not prepared for how busy they were. Sadly the food we were served was done in a hurry also. I had the corned beef hash skillet and their was badly in corned beef. The potatoes were also slightly raw in the middle. While I like corn kernels as well as the next person, it also gave the dish a sweet taste that should not have been present. I give it 3 stars because the quality of the food was very good. I just feel that they were crunched for time and rushed, had they taken the time and not felt rushed, I probably would have gotten a much different eating experience.

Second time at this restaurant (last year I went for the first time during 4th of July weekend). Today I ordered Angel Oak it is a croissant sandwich with turkey, prosciutto, avocado, haverty cheese all within a toasted croissant. It was pretty good but the prosciutto was hard to chew and take a clean bite out of. Probably won't order this sandwich again. I got a generous cup of fruit as my side which was delicious - strawberries and pineapples are my favorite. Next time I would get their fries because those looked delicious too.

did you ever walk in to a place for the first time and had that awkward moment of looking around to get a feel for a place and not know which end is up? You won't have a chance to feel uncomfortable here. As soon as you walk in, you're immediately greeted with a cheerful "Good Morning! Let me get you a table." Great pecan pancakes and fantastic biscuits and gravy. As the Terminator said "I'll be back"

  • Peter A.

Cute little shack with nice decor. Nothing fancy but suits the location. Service was good, but food not so much. Had the home-made granola with fruits and it was a smallish portion, the granola was dark, burned and way too crisp and the selection of fruits was very limited. Even though I mentioned it, I wasn't offered any discount or a small free treat. The pastry was delicious though. I don't regret going there but won't come back.

After running a few early morning miles on the beach, I found myself famished. Good news is that this joint was 3 blocks down from the hotel we were staying at. This place is an adorable charm to folly beach. I had a breakfast burrito and some of the strongest coffee of my life, while my mother had pancakes with homemade cinnamon maple butter. Seeing as I was famished from all the running, it was good that my mother needed help eating her MASSIVE pancakes. I willingly obliged. Our server was bright and attentive. My only qualms to our morning breakfast was that the day we were there something was wrong with their credit card reader so everything was cash only. Fine by us, but a note outside or on the counter would have been helpful. The other thing that perplexed me was that as we arrived my mother and I awkwardly stood around at the door for a few minutes before we were greeted, even though there were 4 women working right behind the counter. We were not sure if we were supposed to seat ourselves or if someone was going to greet us. Very odd. Between 2 coffees, a pastry, and our entrees breakfast was under $20. The food was good and came out quick. I'd recommend for an easy going laid back breakfast before hitting the beach all day.

I absolutely love the atmosphere here. I thought it was going to be a knockoff lost dog but turns out it is a rival! I will be completely torn when deciding breakfast on Folly now. The outdoor seating is bright and lively. Service was good. It has way more selections than lost dog and you can get breakfast all day! I got the Folly egg and cheese and it was delish. Great cocktails too. Can't wait to go back!

I'm not from folley but for the past 5 months that has been my spot. The girls are cool, the food is beyond delicious esp the one and only pipeline and mouth quenching zibby bean. I'm feelin this chill spot from the food to da staff. ..#1FAV!!!!!

Mighty good Bloody Mary and Corned Beef Hash and Eggs! If they only had Tabasco on the side, I would have given them a 5. Restaurants converted from homes must be the trendy thing since that's what most of these restaurants are like here in Folly Beach/Charleston.

This place was. awesome. I stayed in Folly for a week with some friends and my biggest regret is not coming here for breakfast! The menu looked absolutely delicious and had so many healthy options (hello heaps of avocado!) I stopped in to pick up pastries for me and my friends the first morning, which are brought in from a local bakery, and they were incredible! We had an apple cinnamon croissant, a blueberry cream cheese croissant, and a chocolate croissant. I will say they are huge and they are very rich. I ended up buying way too many! They also get their coffee from a local company, and the Sullivan's Blend was delicious, strong, and rich. We were all surprised and pleased with it, and stopped by to get some more before we left. The second visit I had was to grab a smoothie before we headed downtown to walk around, and it was refreshing and tropical. The staff was so helpful, especially when I stopped up the line ordering 10 croissants and a ground bag of coffee, they didn't let me feel guilty and they took their time without making me feel like I was bottlenecking the place. I can't wait to try out the food when I go back!

We all wanted to go to Lost Dog Cafe but when we drove pass, the line was wrap around the corner so I decide to pick this place. I'm not sure if they didn't realized how busy they will be because of the Copper Bridge Run or what but it seem like they don't have a clear communication on whose doing what, when or what section each person are handling. It took 10 mins before someone say hello to us while we waited for the hostess and it took a while more before hostess to get organized and try to seat us. When we finally got seated, nobody came by with water, menu or anything for an additional 15 mins or so. I don't think our section is assign to anybody. Overall service was very slow. We ordered, black Magic French Toast made with croissants, Low county shrimp and grits, West Ashley Omelet, biscuits and gravy, caramel lattes and lots of mimosas. I am in love with the Croissant French toast.. It's very simple yet heavenly. Not at all soggy, just enough eggs and a nice crust. The low county shrimp and grits is pretty good. I need to add just a little salt but its good. The omelet is very meaty. Everything is cooked just right. Overall, the food is very good. I would good back. Hoping next time they will have the place run a little more smoothly.

Busy place. January (completely out of season) the place was packed inside and the 2 waitresses were overwhelmed. Loads of tables free outside in the sunshine but not enough staff. Waited 20 minutes to get served. Waiting staff are good. Food is excellent and the coffee was strong enough to stand up a spoon - just how I like it. Coffin Island smoothie is delicious. FAVORITE.

Rolled in here on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning with a massive hangover and even more massive hunger. Fortunately BMC had the cure to what ailed me! Just steps away from the beach, this place is in an ideal location and also has a pretty charming atmosphere. The color scheme is lively and the patio is pretty spacious. On the day we went there was a guitar player strumming a bit of mellow music on the deck (lots of Marley). The waitstaff is friendly without being overly friendly and we were seated right away and brought our drink orders. The drink list isn't overly expansive but has a few solid items. Beers were about $4 and I believe pitchers of mimosa were at $13. Both the gf and I ordered the fish tacos with sides of sweet potato fries. The tacos were tasty. The fish wasn't overwhelming but I did enjoy the citrusy salsa layered on top. It was perfectly refreshing and went well with the fries. Overall I'd say this place is definitely worth a visit when at Folley Beach

Awesome place. Very chill vibe and well-crafted menu - lots of breakfast options, smoothies, sandwiches, good coffee. The fried chicken biscuit is to die for! My companions also liked the waffles, chicken salad sandwich on a croissant, and fried potatoes. I heard the pork on the southern Benedict was a little dry. Otherwise, great restaurant, not a seedy crab shack at all.

  • Nicole C.

Friendly service and some really good coffee drink combinations. We only had breakfast here but, I hear they also have good sandwiches. The croissant French toast was outstanding. The gravy was different from traditional gravy but, it was very good. If you're staying on folly beach, you can pretty much walk there. They close at 3 in the off season, so get there early.

Visited Folly Beach July 2013 & had a fun little vacation! Visited Black Magic Cafe not only once but twice because we wanted to try something else from the menu after having a delicious & successful time during our first visit! The service was so friendly, busy place but the service kept a smile on their face. The salads & wraps & mimosa's are so delicious! Trying to find time to come back to Folly & Black Magic Cafe again! We loved it so much, even bought a T-Shirt :)

04/01/2015--Time for a reset on my original note. Yes I was disappointed to confront change and additional complexity when the changed the business model. Since that time I have become a fan! The food here is creative and not just your ordinary shrimp and grits breakfast one comes to expect here. We almost lost this gem over the last year--dodged that bullet. My wife is obsessed with the pancakes and there is not an item on the menu that I do not like. This is by far the best breakfast spot on the island!!!. I applaud the move to a "cafe" like atmosphere. The food here is unique and very good. I am sorry to see the no frills simple part of the coffee shop go away. I enjoyed the ability to stop and grab a cup of coffee and sit and read a newspaper or simply watch the happenings of this beach. The argument is that has not changed--which is true now to sit you must be seated and waited on for a cup of coffee. I could do that at Lost Dog and that was the difference with Magic. Now the magic is gone and the new business model allows them to compete for the breakfast share and lunch share. I will continue to grab an occasional bite to eat here when I have the time, however no more walk/bike up and get a simple no frills cup of coffee and ability to take a seat and read the newspaper.

We ate here twice during our stay at Folly. It was fantastic both times! The manager was super nice and accommodating. It was a perfect way to start our day on the beach. The coffee is excellent, and that is coming from a coffee snob! Definitely a favorite of ours now. Three words: chicken & waffles. This is the place to try the unusual country favorite.

Delicious sandwiches and coffee, havent tried breakfast yet but everything sounds amazing, pastries looked and smelled divine. Friendly staff and super cute place!

Very happy to have been made to wait at the Lost Dog. We didn't feel like sitting for an hour to get in there so we walked a couple blocks down and found the Black Magic Cafe. A true gem in Folly, just what it needed! Amazing coffee, awesome, eclectic menu with plenty of choices for anyone, even the picky eater. Excellent, attentive wait staff that was extremely hard working! So y'all sitting outside the Lost Dog, do yourself a favor and walk the 3 minutes down to Black Magic, you'll be happy you did! And get the garlic shrimp omelette, so well done!!

Black Magic has come along way over the last several years. This restaurant used to have a very limited menu offering and very limited seating. Now, they have a fabulous breakfast menu which we enjoyed today. Tons of options. And they also expanded their outdoor seating, which is great, wish they had a little more shade however. The Lost Dog café used to be a clear number one on Folly Beach, now Black Magic is giving it a run for it's money.

Awesome place - I come every single time I visit folly and never had a bad meal. The place is beachy and laid back but do expect to wait on weekends and holidays. Chicken and waffles, shrimp & grits and the folly cristo are favorites. Great coffee and bar to get you back on your feet.

YUM! [almost] every little thing they do is magic! Good food, great portions and a friendly staff will leave you totally satisfied! Great, but busy, for Saturday breakfast and Sunday brunch. Seem to move people in/out pretty quickly, so the wait usually isn't too terrible. They are really one of the top 2 places for breakfast/brunch/lunch out on Folly now. Definitely has a bohemian/beach vibe with exposed wood and the indoor/outdoor areas. Biscuits and Gravy were GREAT! The Lost Dog/Black Magic Cafe sit atop the breakfast pyramid on Folly! I'll go back, for sure!

Yes. I really liked this place for breakfast this morning. I had the croissant French toast and while it wasn't mind blowing, it was delicious. Light weight and I didn't leave feeling bad about myself (which would have been worth it, but still). The cappuccino I had was tasty and had nice foam..the specialty lattes offered are all super sweet flavors (like candy bars and tiramisu) so I opted for the plain cappuccino. Yum. The hubs had the Pipeline wrap and his words were "good...fresh...the perfect blend of fresh veggies and egg. The grilled tortilla was a nice touch too." One bummer* is that the hard liquor mixed drinks aren't available until 10 am (I'm ready for them at all times while on vacation), so...start with a coffee made with locally roasted beans and come back for the buzz later. **And by bummer, I mean I had to wait to get my frozen mojito on until 10 on the dot the next day, but I did just that and it was delicious. (The 10 am rule is a state law so can't reeeeeally complain).

Fantastic service- Megan is great! Got blueberry muffins- super moist and yummy. Cappuccino was out of this world! Folly Mess was delicious! The downside is the wait - 30 mins and the table was sticky. We are definitely eating here tomorrow! !! Review #2 Looks like the service overall is great. Jessie helped us today and she was very friendly as well. I had the Bohicket and it was THE BEST sandwich I have ever had!

Good salads and sandwiches! Love a place that serves breakfast and lunch all day to please everyone you're visiting the beach with. Fast and fresh. The farmers market salad w honey pesto vinaigrette and grilled chicken was awesome - the bagel croutons were dope :) nice service, will be back next time I'm in folley!

Thank you Yelpers for not letting me down on the Black Magic Cafe. I was looking for a brunch place to stop at on my way to Folly Beach. Thanks to you all, Black Magic Cafe was the perfect place to grab a bite to eat before a day spent frolicking in the ocean. I arrived at Black Magic Cafe around 11:30am on a Wednesday. There were plenty of tables open and I sat on the back covered porch. I ordered a coffee and the Country Benedict. The coffee was delicious and the Country Benedict was amazingly decedent, like no other Benedict I've tasted before. The poached egg, ham, and cheese sat on top two biscuits covered in country sausage gravy. On top of all that was a pile of delicious onion straws. It was just all SO good. All of the flavors were so delicious and there was so much food I just couldn't finish all of the onion straws. Shame on me! My husband ordered a chicken sandwich with home fries. He said it was a really good chicken sandwich on a large soft potato bun. He ordered it with mozzarella cheese and it came out fresh and melted on top of the chicken. Both of our meals were perfect. The service was great and our waitress was very attentive. After we paid the bill, she asked if we would like water in a to-go cup. This was so nice of her! We happily took her up on the offer and brought our nice, cool water to the beach with us as we enjoyed a beautiful day under the sun.

We stopped in here for coffee one morning walking back to our hotel. My husband and I each ordered an iced mocha to go. While we were waiting, we looked at the menu and saw a few things that sounded good. We can back the next day for brunch. My husband ordered the palmetto sizzler. It wasn't what we thought it would be. It was still really good, just not what we expected based on the description. I had the biscuits and gravy, and I really liked them! The biscuits weren't super fluffy, but being covered in gravy kind of makes up for it. The vibe here is really neat as well. The outdoor seating area is super cool and there's a covered patio as well. Overall, we enjoyed our meal here. That being said, I wasn't overly impressed so next time we're in town I might try another place.

A cute little restaurant off of the main road on folly island, we had heard that black magic cafe was the bee's knees. Their selection of breakfast food was vast, and all of them sounded great! I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but my friends assured me that their coffee was on point. They also have tea and smoothie options for people like me. I ordered "the country" with home fries. I am very particulate about my breakfast foods, and boy oh boy I was very satisfied. I was so full I could barely walk out of there! A bit pricey but absolutely worth the price. Be sure to drop by for some delicious breakfast food!

Was far & away the best spot to eat on Folly Beach - came here twice during my stay and both times the food & service were excellent. Would highly recommend the fried chicken biscuit (fried chicken + homemade biscuit + fried egg + pimiento cheese = happiness), but it's going to be tough to pick from all of the other great options. Well done to the folks who work at this place, would highly recommend it for anyone visiting!

Quality of food: perfect - comfort food, but with a chef for a grandmother. Flavor of food: Very good! Customer Service: 5 stars. VALUE: Very good. So, here's what we ordered to eat: Sunrise Eggs - eggs, grits, and a biscuit - this popular staple was well-done. The eggs were prepared just as ordered, and the grits were thick and flavorful, not bland as most grits are. Biscuits with Rosemary Sausage Gravy - excellent. Great flavors going on here: Eggs prepared to order on top, with crispy browned cheese and some melted as well. This feature exceeded my expectations. CONCLUSION: great flavors, great staff, great breakfast, great experience. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

update, this is the spot, on point coffee and the best service. Gets just as busy as any other place on folly. Make this a first choice!

Food was good with large portions. I had the huevos rancheros and it was really good. Lots of coffee options as well. I would go back here but liked Lost Dog Cafe for breakfast even more, so this would be my second choice for breakfast spots on Folly

Excellent, diverse menu that satisfies even the pickiest eater. Hard to recommend items when I can barely decide what I want, since everything looks so good! I had the triple decker grilled cheese with bacon and tomato, delicious!

This place is amazing. The staff is friendly and helpful. Everyone seemed to be working together for the goal of making all of their guests have the best experience possible. The food is incredible. Ingredients are fresh and prepared to perfection. I would give this establishment 10 stars if possible. We had breakfast here at the beginning of our vacation and had to go back for lunch the next day. We also had take out breakfast a few times to enjoy on the beach. As someone in the restaurant business I was incredibly impressed.

Went for breakfast on Mother's Day. Garlic shrimp omelette was delicious. Great coffee and lattes. Husband had the west Ashley omelette. Recommend the side of potatoes! Only negative... For Mother's Day they were giving out a biscuit/muffin thing to moms. They walked right past our table three times and didn't stop because they judged me as "not a mom". Not that I needed the muffin, but I was completely offended and upset at the judgement passed on me. Update: owner was super awesome, apologetic, and sweet. Prompt reply. Would still definitely go back!

Deliciousness. The pumpkin pancakes are wonderful. They had the right amount of sweetness to them, and they were not overpoweringly sweet. The smoothies are awesome too!

If I could rate it 4.5 I would. Was in town for a long weekend with family and we went here twice for Breakfast. The Chicken & Waffles were as good as I've ever had, particularly the Chicken. The breading was crispy and not drenched in syrup. My Father-In-Law could not stop raving about the Fried Chicken Biscuit w/ Pimento. It was a bit crowded so we had to sit outside which isn't all that fun in the middle of the summer, but overall this was a great meal and experience.

Very cool breakfast shack. Some items are a little pricey for what you get but overall it was pretty reasonable. The pancakes are great, the huevos rancheros was incredible, and the chicken and waffles were delicious! The atmosphere was laid back and I really enjoyed my time there!

There are many things in this world I truly don't understand. Gravity, Zodiac signs, Bitcoins, The Kardashians (that Scott is hilarious though), and why poke is still an option on facebook all top the list. So does Black Magic not getting more love! It is reviewed very highly on Yelp but to the general public, it is still an unknown. They have some of the best breakfast options and smoothies (smoothies are my addiction) in Charleston. There is an incredible selection of breakfast wraps and sandwiches. They serve breakfast all day long and I have never been disappointed in anything I've ordered, breakfast or lunch. Always a winner. I love the spell Black Magic has on me!

Had a strong mimosa and a delicious Edge sandwich. Amazing flavor!! Great hipster beach joint with cool decor. The only thing that bugged me was the slow service.

decided to try this based on Yelp reviews, and someone mentioning croissant french toast. whoa. SOOOO good! so good, in fact, that it was the only restaurant we went to more than once during our stay in SC (both times for breakfast, and both times I got the french toast). It says it's topped with fruit so you figure, ok, a few strawberries. No -- it's TOPPED with fruit! absolutely, positively THE place to go for breakfast -- probably lunch as well, but we didn't have the time. I believe my husband got some egg/hash brown thing each time and also loved it. seriously -- go to this place.

Here is the classy compliment I received from Eran at Black Magic Cafe in response to my review: "Why won't u come see me so I can make eggs and stick them in your fucking ugly ass wife's ass? U fucking idiot u lucky you're not next to me ill butt fuck your wife and mon and sister" Very, very classy operation! Think carefully as to whether you want to frequent such an establishment. I will not be.

Such a friendly spot! A little bit of Bohemia in Folly Beach. The brunch food was excellent and the mimosas are generous. Come with a smile and leave with a Black Magic Mug. Love this place.

  • B B.

Very upset with the "scrambled" eggs. It was half fried and omelette. Was browned all over it and had tiny greasy black pieces off the grill or pan. For $8 for 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon and "toast" which was just bread cooked on a panini press... Toasty lines with soft throughout bread. I'm sorry but I can't see justifying the price. I know it's in touristy location but waffle house can make scrambles eggs and toast for half the price and do it right.

I went here on my last morning in town. I'm a big breakfast wrap fan and have to say that the bacon, egg, & cheese on a whole wheat tortilla was the best I've ever had. I usually have to douse on hot sauce due to eggs on most wraps not being seasoned. This one stood up by itself. It seems like Lost Dog gets all of the attention in Folly Beach. It is great, but I'll be sure to hit Black Magic Cafe first for breakfast my next time in town. Also, I give them a big bonus for having stevia as a sweetener.

We have been coming here for a couple of years now & wow have they worked out their kinks. We have always come back as the food speaks for itself. We again were not disappointed on Mothers Day - even with how busy they were. The restaurant flowed so well & our server - wish I would've asked her name - she was a sweetheart, friendly, knowledgeable and never seemed in a hurry (even while being extremely busy) - we are so sad that they will be moving-but we are customers for life. My favorite breakfast spot & 2nd annual Mothers Day spent there. And OMG - our food came out so fast, fresh & delicious! Thank you Black Magic - y'all have come a long way & we are so happy to have you!

Earlier this month, I stopped by Black Magic for a to-go breakfast. I was extremely happy with my choices: a breakfast panini (wish I could recall which one - it had spinach, eggs and Gouda, I think) and a powerful cup of coffee. Great service, kind folks.

GO HERE! I wish I lived closer, because I'm sure I'd be a regular here! My friends and I stopped here for brunch. I got coffee, a falafel burger, and sweet potato fries. Everything was awesome! Everybody in my party was happy with their food, too. I remember even having trouble ordering because everything on the menu sounded so amazing, and I'm sure it is! I will definitely be coming back!

Loved the place. While their are limited breakfast options on Folly Beach, you can't go wrong here. Loved the $3 Mimosa's; the granola on the Tree Hugger is amazing and worth every bite!!! Super delicious and homemade with chunks of dried fruit. Fresh squeezed OJ; local coffee; awesome patio deck with lots of seating and these really great tarp covers to keep out of the sun. Croissant French Toast with fresh fruit was super delicious and their grits are AMAZING! Good enough I went every morning on my most recent visit and left with their own branded coffee mugs and some local coffee beans to enjoy at home.

Came here after going paddle boarding. Parking isn't great, BUT find a place to park cause the food and pastries are wonderful. They have a wonderful atmosphere with indoor seating, an outdoor covered deck with fans, and a deck that's an outside deck. The food is fresh, yummy and inexpensive for what you get. My husband got the shrimp and grits - nom nom, and I got the burger with a fried egg (can't remember the name), but it was sooooo good!!!

I stopped in with my partner during an impulsive trip to Foley Beach. What got me was the cute sculpture sign out front of the coffee mug pouring coffee. I'm a sucker for dumb stuff like that. We just got an iced coffee from the very sweet barista and sat on the side patio. A guy scolded us for smoking, but otherwise it was totally pleasant. We could also park our car at the little hotel thing across the street all day. It was fun to watch all the beach families stop in. My favorite was a golf cart with a mom and three little girls who all wanted fancy drinks. The mom told one of them to come get her hot chocolate, but for some reason she didn't want to, and the mom said "if you don't come get this, I'm going to throw it away" and then the girl cried, which was funny, but seriously, that's a waste of an expensive hot chocolate. Just bring it to her. Or give me the $4 because I could use it. If I go back to Foley Beach, I will stop in here again, just because it's cute and familiar, but I wouldn't exactly write home about it. Good coffee. Nice staff except for that one guy who was being a little sassy.

Well, this review is based solely on the adorable exterior of this coffee shop (see picture), which wasn't open when I walked by. It looked like a happy place to be! All the shops and restaurants along this stretch of Center Street boast vibrant colors and a laid-back beach vibe. I hope some other Yelpers out there can comment on the food and coffee here.

This little coffee shop was one of the best things about Folly. The ambiance inside is warm and cozy, they have a very large menu selection that ranges from deli sandwiches, different coffees, salads, and breakfast items which were all really good. They have a cool little outside area to sit and enjoy your items while watching the main strip of Folly Rd. The Black Magic signature drink was awesome. Love this place and cannot wait to go back.

My wife and I moved to Folly Beach while I'm doing a 5 month job in Charleston. We could walk to this place from our rental home and we quickly fell in love with it. Great food, wonderful casual atmosphere, the design is a treat for the eye, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Great outdoor patio but the inside is fun too. My wife loved the coffee. We'll miss it when it's time to go.

The wait staff is always wonderful, they are sweet to our doggie, the food is always amazing, the coffee is DELICIOUS (love that they serve almond milk, also!), the patio is perfect for a nice day... it's a wonderful spot!!!! This had to be the best place to eat on Folly Beach, when I found out about the place I went back the next morning. As soon as you walk in the door the smell is overwhelming with fresh baked goods, cookies, croissants, muffins, bagels, etc. I briefly looked over the menu and decided that the turkey omelette was what I wanted, and boy was I impressed! The food is very fresh, and all organic. They have an amazing selection of beverages to choose from. Overall, this place deserves 5 stars.

This place was a great spot on Folly Beach that I had to go to in order to get some school work done. The place I was staying at did not have internet (It's 2011, people! Get with the program). Black Magic Coffee Shop has good food, good coffee, and free wi-fi. What more can you ask for?! I hope to go back here next year when I visit Folly.

Awesome breakfast place, huge breakfast sandwiches for cheap and great specials. I got a croissant with fruit on the inside, white chocolate and honey and it was delicious. My only regret is not figuring out this place was here earlier in the week.

Thank you for letting me come here and drink coffee and work on my laptop and check my email while I am supposed to be on "vacation." It is not really a "vacation" unless I can do my work in a coffee shop like I do on every other day of the year. My family doesn't understand, but you do.
